Sonja specializes in German and European environmental, chemicals and waste law. Her particular area of expertise is in waste and end-of-life product legislation, primarily legislation on packaging and electrical and electronic equipment. In addition, Sonja advises public and private clients on backfilling and landfilling. Furthermore, Sonja has a broad experience in REACH, in particular in data and cost sharing. She also advises on biocides, food and animal feed law.

Sonja studied law at the universities of Munster, Cologne and Liverpool. Apart from her legal education, she also obtained a postgraduate master´s degree in “British Studies” from the Humboldt University Berlin. Moreover, Sonja worked for two years as a research assistant at the professorial chair of Prof. Dr. Thomas von Danwitz, now President of the 7th Chamber at the Court of Justice of the European Union. She earned her doctorate on the European fundamental rights under his supervision.
Sonja was admitted to the bar in 2006 and worked two years in a large international law firm in Cologne before she joined the Cologne office of avocado rechtsanwälte in 2008.
